David Satterfield is currently the Director of Asset Development for the Office of Research and Economic Development at West Virginia University and a tenured Associate Professor in the School of Music. Within his assignment, Mr. Satterfield also serves as the Assistant to the Director of the WVMEP as well as the Facility Security Officer for WVU and the WVUIC.
David Satterfield served as the Executive Director of the West Virginia Development Office from October 2001 through January 2005. As such, he was responsible for four line divisions, focusing on building strong communities; recruiting new investment from around the United States and the world; strengthening and retaining existing industry, enhancing entrepreneurial opportunities and building small businesses
Prior to joining the Development Office Mr. Satterfield served as the Chief of Staff and Vice President for Institutional Advancement at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. In this capacity he functioned as chief advisor to the University president, David Hardesty, as West Virginia University’s primary government relations executive, coordinated the internal administration strategies of the institution and spearheaded special initiatives.
When Governor Bob Wise was elected, in November 2000, Satterfield served as director of the transition team. He continued this service until the inauguration in January 2001, at which time he became the Chief of Staff to the Governor until May 2001 when he returned to his post at the University.
Satterfield is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He earned two music degrees (BM and MM) from WVU and has been a faculty member in the College of Creative Arts at WVU since 1983.
